Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount

The best way to attach to a car and hold a phone.

It features single-handed operation. You can adjust the length and angle by rotating and extending. You can also attach it securely to a car’s dashboard or windshield with the suction cup.
US$ 10.99 from DIGSHOPAED 24.99 from DIGSHOP (UAE) Note: The price is based at the time of publishing.
Pros:
+Single-handed operation+Reusable base+Extend the arm up to 10.2 inches
Cons:
-Block some of your view while driving

For most people, Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount is the best car phone mount. It has solid construction, especially the joints. Its suction-cup base is compatible with all cars on the market and can firmly attach to a dashboard or windshield. If the suction cup gets dirty after repeatedly installing and remove, just wash it with water then air dry, and it will restore its stickiness.

Even when you are driving on a bumpy road, the mount can still keep its stability and hold a phone firmly without slipping off. This benefits from the bulge design on the top of the two side cradles.

It can be easily installed and removed with a single hand. Most importantly, the adjustable arm can be extended and rotated, which allows us to get the best viewing angle and distance when we tested in different cars.

OUR DISCOVERY

Who is this for

If you want to use your smart phone -to get direction, play music, take phone calls while driving, a good car phone mount can do you a favor. You can install your phone in a place where you can easily look at. This will make it easier for you to operate your phone and drive safer. (Of course, it’s not designed to let you stare at your phone for too long, but just make it easy to use your phone when necessary)

Using a car phone mount to place your phone on your car’s dashboard, windshield or air vents is the best way to keep your eyes on the road while driving. Click to Tweet

If you just got a new phone and it is much bigger than the old one, you may find that your car phone mount can’t hold your new phone firmly. Or, if you feel upset about your current car phone mount, and you need a better one, our picks can bring you surprises.

Types of smartphone car mounts

There are different attachments of car phone mounts, you can choose a suitable type based on an area where you would like to install in your car and your preference. We have summed up the pros and cons of each type. We suggest that you read these summaries first before buying to see which type of car phone mount is the best for you and your car.

Suction cup mounts: The best part of the suction cup type is that if you install it on a dashboard or windshield, it won’t block your access to the buttons or display on the center console. Installing on a car’s dash or windshield may block your forward view in some levels, but you can install it in the left down corner of a windshield to minimize the block as much as possible. It may leave a circular mark on the glass, but you can clean it with glass cleaner. However, the sticky gel could discolor some materials, causing a permanent damage.

Air vent mounts: They are generally small and easy to install because their rubber clamps can grip a slat of your car’s air vents firmly. We prefer the spring-loaded clamps attachment instead of the not-spring-loaded clamps or the turn-to-lock clamps attachment because the spring-loaded clamps are universally compatible with different types of vents, and also easy to install.

From left to right: turn-to-lock clamps, spring-loaded clamps, not-spring-loaded rubber clamps.

However, these air vent mounts have some requirements for the vent shape. Some car models may not fit this type.

Air vent mounts are not compatible with irregular vents.

Sticky adhesive mounts: They usually have smaller size and can be attached to most areas in a car. However, the base of this type is usually mounted with adhesive. So, there may exist two common problems. The first problem is that it will leave marks on the surface where you remove it and it may do permanent damage to the interior of the fragile genuine leather. The second problem is that over time the stickiness will become weak. Therefore, we need to find the kind of adhesive that will securely mount on a car’s dashboard or windshield and leave no marks as well as won’t damage the car when removing it.

CD slot mounts: We didn’t offer the CD slot mounts choice, because we found that in some cars, the CD slot mounts will block the access to a car’s center console or display. If the CD slot in your car is in a lower place of the center console, it will make you look down when driving and take off your eyesight from a road. It is not safe. Plus, Bluetooth system and Car play are getting popular. People can listen to more music in their cars, so more new cars have removed the CD slot.

Types of phone attachments

If you have determined the suitable type of mount, you also have to choose the method you like to hold your phone. No matter which method, we think it must be stable and convenient. It means you can easily insert or remove your phone with a single hand while driving.

Cradles: Cradle-type mounts usually use the two side cradles and the bottom cradle to grip your phone. There are three types of cradle-type mount, including one-touch mount, cradle-squeeze mount, and gravity mount.

One-touch mounts’ main feature is that they have a button in the center of the holder itself. All you need to do is press the button with the back of your phone. The two side cradles will quickly close and hold your phone firmly. If you want to take out your phone, you only need to squeeze the two levers under the cradles so that the cradles will release.

One-touch mounts feature one-handed operation.

Cradle-squeeze mounts look similar to one-touch mounts, but the operation is just in the opposite. You first need to place your phone on the phone holder, then use your hands to squeeze the two side cradles until they grip your phone firmly. When you want to put your phone on the holder, one-touch mounts will grip your phone faster than cradle-squeeze mounts, and you don’t need to focus on the cradles. Moreover, the strength of the cradles of cradle-squeeze mounts, generally, is not as strong as that of the one-touch mounts.

Cradle-squeeze mounts are inconvenient to operate.

Gravity mounts’ two side cradles are activated by the downward pressure (bottom cradle) from the weight of your phone in the holder. You just need to place your phone on the bottom cradle, and the weight of your phone will pull the bottom cradle downwards. The two side cradles will close and grip your phone firmly. If you want to remove your phone, you just need to lift it gently and the weight will be taken off from the bottom cradle and close upwards. The two side cradles will separate at the same time. This structure makes it very simple to install and remove your phone. However, in our testing, we found that there were some fatal flaws of most gravity mounts on the market. First, the structure is not stable, and the two side cradles are easy to shake. The strength of the cradles is much weaker than that of other mounts’ cradles. If you experience bumpy roads while driving, your phone will shake up and down, and it may fall off from the cradles. Finally, normal gravity mounts are not adjustable, which means you cannot place your phone horizontally.

Gravity mounts are very easy in operation.

Magnetic: Compared to cradle-type mounts, magnetic mounts secure your phone more easily and quickly. Stick a metal plate to the back of your phone or phone case, and put your phone near the magnetic holder, the magnet will quickly suck your phone. Plus, the simple structure does not occupy much space in your car. However, there must be some gains and losses. Even if the magnetic force is strong enough, they will not grip your phone firmly as cradle-type mounts and provide your phone with enough safety. The magnetic mounts are the most convenient and fastest to operate in all types of car phone mounts, but not everyone chooses to use it.

The biggest reason is that some people do not like the metal plate on the back of a phone to affect the overall look. To solve this problem, you can place the metal plate inside the phone case, as long as your phone case is not too thick. But to some extent, this will affect the power of the magnet.

If your phone is using wireless charging, we do not recommend you use a magnetic mount because the metal plate will interfere with the wireless charging. Some consumers reviewed that a magnetic mount would interfere with the built-in compass or signal of a phone, but this problem did not occur in our tests and long-term use. We’ve also found out that this situation is not very common, so it is not a big problem for most people.

How we picked and tested

As we mentioned before, car phone mounts have different attaching bases and methods to hold a phone. But, we believe a great car phone mount should satisfy the following criteria:

① It must have solid construction, especially the joint. It will not shake and make weird sounds.

② It must firmly attach to your car so that the mount does not separate or fall, even on rough roads.

③ It must strongly hold your phone without falling off even on an extremely bumpy road.

④ It must fix your phone in a position where you can easily look at. It can keep your normal line of sight when driving so that you will not take your eyes off the road for too long because of watching your phone.

⑤ It must allow you to easily adjust the angle or direction of your phone (vertically or horizontally) for better viewing.

⑥ It must allow you to insert or remove your phone easily and it’d better operate with one hand.

⑦ We give some extra points to the minimalist design because it should not take up much space in your car (as possible), but this is not an absolute criterion.

Based on these criteria, we did research on 78 models of car phone mounts on the market and bought 33 of them back to test.

Stability

First, we eliminated some mounts that had bad built quality and weak stability. With slight shakes, these mounts would make weird sounds, which made us always worried the phone would fall off. Turns out that in the following bump testing, these mounts with unstable structure could not firmly hold our phone.

Operation Convenience

In addition, we gave up the mounts that require two-handed operation because it is dangerous to use two hands to control your phone while driving.

Mount Installation

Then, we brought them to different cars to install in order to find out if these car phone mounts of different structures would fit most cars.

Suction cup mounts can fit most cars and attach securely. Even if the dashboard in some cars has a rough surface, the suction cup can still attach securely to the windshield of the cars.

Regarding air vent mounts, there are three clamps types,  including spring-loaded clamps, not-spring-loaded rubber clamps, and turn-to-lock clamps.

Spring-loaded clamps have great compatibility and are also easy to install. They are suitable for most vents in most mainstream cars.

Not-spring-loaded rubber clamps are the least universally compatible because the width of the clamps is fixed. If the slats in your car are thick, this type can be tricky or even impossible to install.

Turn-to-lock clamps are the most universally compatible and they are suitable for any shape of vents. However, this type is a bit inconvenient to install because you need to tighten it after inserting to a slat.

There is also a type of sticky adhesive mount that is stuck to any surface in a car with a 3M adhesive. This 3M adhesive must be strong enough to hold a phone firmly, and its stickiness performance should not be weakend whether the weather is hot or not.

Stability Test

We installed the car phone mounts we bought in our cars. We found a bumpy road and drove back and forth on it to test the stability under extreme conditions. In our testing, we found that cradle-type mounts were more stable than magnetic mounts. Of course, it doesn’t mean that a phone will easily fall off from magnetic mounts. We’re saying that cradle-type mounts can give you and your phone a better sense of security.

We were driving on a very bumpy road.

Real-world experience

We shared these mounts to our colleagues who own a car in order to test if the suction cup and the 3M adhesive, as well as the magnet, would become weak over time. After a period of use, we had a brainstorming and put forward the problems we had while in use, and picked our favorites based on the above criteria and test results.

The best universal car phone mount

Our Pick: KEEPERDOG Mechanical One Touch Universal Car Phone Mount (KK01)

Our Pick

KEEPERDOG Mechanical One Touch Universal Car Phone Mount (KK01)

Small and stable, it is the most universal car phone mount.

It has a smaller size than Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount, which is one of our picks, but it allows you to operate with a single hand. Meanwhile, it keeps your phone stable. It is the most universal car phone mount in all the models we tested. You can stick it to any surface.
US$ 12.99 from DIGSHOPAED 34.99 from DIGSHOP (UAE) Note: The price is based at the time of publishing.
Pros:
+Convenient single-handed operation+Compact+Strong 3M adhesive leaves no mark+Mount it anywhere in a car
Cons:
-The 3M adhesive is not reusable

If you need a car phone mount as stable as Leeioo, but you don’t want the big size, or, if you want a tiny size mount as Leeioo, but the vents in your car don’t fit or you don’t like to stick a metal plate to your phone, this KEEPERDOG Mechanical One Touch Universal Car Phone Mount (KK01) is suitable for you. It is a very small cradle-type car phone mount. The included 3M sticker is very strong, and it allows you to stick it firmly to any surface. It can hold your phone firmly without adding any hardware to your phone.

The mechanical structure is incredible

Meanwhile, its special mechanical structure allows you to rotate your phone vertically or horizontally. The mechanical click sound effect from rotation is beautiful, which makes you can’t stop adjusting it.

You can rotate it in any direction.

Quick one-touch operation

KEEPERDOG’s structure is similar to one-touch mounts. It holds your phone firmly with the two side cradles. For the first time you use it, you need to separate the two side cradles manually (because it doesn’t have release levers like one-touch mounts), then press the two little buttons on the phone holder with the back of your phone. The two side cradles will automatically close and firmly hold your phone. When you want to remove your phone, you don’t need to separate the cradles again. Just directly lift your phone from the bottom. Next time, when you insert your phone again, just simply put it in between the two cradles and it will be hold firmly and securely as before. When you want to put a different size phone on the mount, you’ll have to open the two side cradles again and insert the new phone.

KEEPERDOG Mechanical One Touch Universal Car Phone Mount

You can even mount it anywhere in your car

The KEEPERDOG car phone mount attaches to a car’s dashboard with a 3M sticker. The 3M sticker has very strong stickiness and you can even stick it to a vertical position. To test the power of the 3M sticker, we stuck the mount to a rough and textured table and heated it for 40 minutes (stopped for five minutes every ten minutes) with a hairdryer. The mount still strongly attached to the table. So, even in a hot summer day, you don’t need to worry about it will be loose. There was no mark left after removal.

This KEEPERDOG also comes in another version for air vent installation. However, we do not recommend buying it because it requires some efforts to insert or remove a phone from the cradles. If you do not operate properly, it will easily damage the vent slat in your car.

We heated the 3M sticker with a hairdryer, and when we removed it, no mark was left.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The 3M adhesive cannot be used repeatedly. Once the mount is secured, you can’t change the position. And you need to try so hard to remove it. Of course, it comes with another 3M adhesive for replacement in the package.

The best air vent car phone mount

Our Pick: DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount

Our Pick

DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount

A creative mount that provides beyond-your-expectation convenience and stability.

DIVI is a mini-sized air vent car phone mount. You just need to adjust the width of the clamps for the first-time use, and you can insert or remove your phone easily with just one hand.
US$ 12.99 from DIGSHOPAED 34.99 from DIGSHOP (UAE) Note: The price is based at the time of publishing.
Pros:
+Compact +Multi-angle adjustment+Easy installation
Cons:
-You need to adjust the clamp width before inserting a new phone

If you think the cradle-type mounts are too big, and you prefer a smaller one that is more convenient to insert or remove your phone, DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount is just right for you.

Small cradles come with convenient installation

Notice, the design of the cradles of DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount is so special that we’ve never seen before. They’re much smaller than that of normal car phone mounts, which won’t take up much space in your car.

Comparison: DIVI and Leeioo

There is a button under the cradles. Press and move it left or right at the same time and you can adjust the width of the cradles. For the first-time use, based on the size of your phone, you can adjust the cradles to a proper width that’s just enough to hold the phone. Now, the setting is done, so next time when you use it, you can insert or remove the phone with just one hand. Plus, the structure is stable. Your phone won’t shake a bit after you put it on.

Easy one-handed operation

The single-handed operation benefits from the two-side spring-loaded arms with the scroll design. With a bit effort, the arms can be easily opened with the help of the springs, cushioning the force while inserting or removing your phone.

The two-side spring-loaded arms.

The scroll design makes the whole process easier as the trolleys will move while you attach or remove your phone. Also, the trolleys and inner cradles are padded with silicone material, protecting your phone from scratches and slip.

The scroll design.

The KEEPERDOG Mechanical One Touch Universal Car Phone Mount we recommended above has similar cradles to DIVI, but they are not with springs and trolleys, which requires a little bit more efforts when you insert or remove your phone.

The phone holder of DIVI can be adjusted by the ball joint. And the tightness of ball joint can also be adjusted by turning the knob on it. When you get the best angle, just tighten the knob and you don’t need to reset it next time.

Tighten the knob and you don’t need to reset it next time.

Special spring-loaded clips

This car phone mount is attached to air vents via spring-loaded clips. Different from other products, the clips are flatter, which makes it easier to be slid into the air vent.

Comparison: DIVI clamps and other clamps.

The inner clips are padded with sawtooth silicone material, which is also a quite special design, as the silicone pads of normal clips are smooth. The sawtooth texture can increase the friction, making the mount more stable to fix on the air vent. We also found that the clips of most car phone mounts on the market are made of plastic. However, for DIVI, the clips are made of metal, so they are more solid and durable.

The clamps are padded with the sawtooth rubber inside.

Finally, we mounted DIVI to a car and put a phone on it and drove on a bumpy road. DIVI could attach to the slat of the air vents stably, and the phone didn’t fall out. Just slightly shook.

The best alternative for magnetic car phone mounts

Leeioo Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount was our pick before, but we didn’t choose any magnetic car phone mounts at last because they require to stick a metal plate on the back of your phone. This metal plate not only affects the look of your phone but also interferes with wireless charging. However, DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount packs with easy operation without sticking any accessories to your phone, which is one of the reasons we picked it.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

As we said above, for the first-time usage, you need to adjust the width of the cradles to hold your phone. This means that if you have different models of phones and often use them interchangeably, or, if you have different drivers of your car (such as your family and friends), you have to re-adjust the mount every time you use it. Fortunately, the operation is not hard, so we think this is just a flaw but not deal breaker.

The best gravity car phone mount

KEEPERDOG Gravity Car Phone Mount

Our Pick

KEEPERDOG Gravity Car Phone Mount

It offers the most convenient phone operation.

It is a rare gravity car phone mount that allows you to place your phone not only vertically but also horizontally, and its cradles are more stable than other models in the same type.
US$ 10.99 from DIGSHOPAED 27.99 from DIGSHOP (UAE) Note: The price is based at the time of publishing.
Pros:
+Easy installation+Support horizontal phone viewing+Multi-angle adjustment+More stable than typical gravity car phone mounts
Cons:
-Just like all gravity mounts, its stability is not as good as other types

If you prefer the convenience of gravity car phone mounts, consider our recommendation KEEPERDOG Gravity Car Phone Mount. It is the best gravity mount we’ve seen, as it solves the fatal problem — no horizontal viewing — that usually happens to other models in the same type.

Hit the weakness of typical gravity mounts

Undeniably, besides magnetic car phone mounts, gravity car phone mounts are the most convenient to operate. However, most gravity car phone mounts on the market all exist two disadvantages.

First, you can’t put your phone on them horizontally, which is not friendly to users who are used to watching videos or getting direction in a landscape orientation (for your safety, we don’t suggest that you watch any videos while driving).

Second, most gravity car phone mounts are designed to be wide of the cradles to fit more models of phones. Such design will leave some extra space in the cradles after you attach your phone, making the phone shake and make vibrating sounds while driving.

The extra space in the cradles will make the phone shake and make vibrating sounds while driving.

KEEPERDOG solves these two problems thoroughly. It not only allows you to get a vertical viewing like traditional gravity car phone mounts, but also a horizontal one, which benefits from the special cradles that can be weighed downwards or inwards at the same time, as well as two silicone pads on the side cradles.

You can put your phone vertically or horizontally.

Moreover, the two silicone pads on the side cradles are properly curved. Even there is extra space in the cradles after you put your phone on, the phone will not shake back and forth.

It has no extra space in the cradles, which holds your phone firmly.

All three cradles of KEEPERDONG are padded with silicone materials, which makes the phone more stable after you attach it. And they are also anti-scratch. In addition, the cradle part and the spring-loaded clamps are connected by a ball joint with a knob which you can use to adjust the tightness. So, you can set the cradle angle and fix it within a certain range.

Adjust the cradles and tighten the knob.

Stable spring-loaded clamps with easy installation

KEEPERDOG is also mounted to the car air vent by spring-loaded clamps. Although the design of the clamps is not as good as DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount, the clamps are strong enough, and they’re padded with silicone material inside. Therefore, you can still mount it to air vents firmly.

The clamps of KEEPERDOG Gravity Car Phone Mount.

Finally, we installed KEEPERDOG in the car and put a phone on it, then drove on a bumpy road. It turned out that whether the phone or the mount was still stable. Although KEEPERDOG is not the most stable gravity mount we have seen, it is the most functional. Its stability is already enough for average drivers unless you are an off-roading enthusiast.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The structure of most gravity car phone mounts on the market is relatively loose, compared to other types. Although KEEPERDOG is not the most stable model we have ever seen in gravity mounts, in real-world usage, it can handle driving on a normal road or a slightly bumpy road. But when you use it driving on a very roughed road or doing off-road activities, your phone may be at risk of falling off. To solve that problem, you could consider our other three picks — KEEPERDOG Mechanical One Touch Universal Car Phone Mount (KK01), DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount, or Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount.

The best Dash & Windshield car phone mount

Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount

Our Pick

Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount is the most satisfying model we could find which meets most criteria we have for a car phone mount. It has a solid structure and is easier and safer to attach to a car than other car phone mounts in its price range. It works with any phone without adding extra hardware to your phone and holds it firmly.

Always keeps the best viewing distance and angle

Most importantly, it can be freely rotated in 240 degrees. The adjustable arm can extend from 7.4 inches to 10.2 inches (18.8cm to 25.9cm). This allows you to adjust to the best viewing angle and distance no matter what car you drive. Plus it still maintains a great stability when it reaches to the longest.

You can rotate it in any direction.

Every single joint is solid

Its structure is solid enough, especially the joints. Don’t take this for granted, because not every model of similar car phone mounts can do it. There are many parts in a car phone mount that can be adjusted. If the mount is with poor built quality, there is no guarantee that the joints will be able to maintain great stability. Even some car phone mounts we tested made abnormal sounds with just a slight shake.

Fun! We used a hairdryer to test the stability of the suction cup.

Leeioo car phone mount securely attaches to a car’s dashboard or windshield by using a suction cup coated with additional adhesive and a vacuum pressure switch. This adhesive suction cup can better attach to a textured dash surface. However, there are two common problems. The sticky gel pad of the suction cup will melt due to high temperature in a car, and it will damage the dashboard after a long time of use. These are two problems the consumers care most on Amazon.

To solve the problems, we heated up this Leeioo mount to test its stability in high temperature. We used a hair dryer with the temperature setting of 140℉ (60℃) to heat it for 40 minutes (stopped for five minutes every ten minutes). We found the stickiness was not affected, and still very stable.

It required great efforts to remove.

We also tested how it performs after long-term use. It appeared that the suction cup got dirty after repeated installation and removal. Solving this problem is easy. Just clean it with water then air dry, the stickiness will restore as new and you can use it again. In addition, it would not damage the interior in your car when you remove it.

It can grab your phone firmly even without bottom feet

Its cradles are different from regular cradles. It doesn’t have a bottom cradle to prevent your phone from slipping. Thus, at first, we were worried that if this design would hold your phone firmly. However, the top of the two side cradles has a slightly-bulge design, which can well prevent your phone from falling off. Even if you’re driving on a bumpy road, it can maintain its own stability and be able to hold your phone firmly at the same time. And you can conveniently operate it with one hand. Just because it does not have a bottom cradle, it’s more convenient to install your phone.

Comparison: the car phone mounts with or without a bottom feet.

There is a button (also called “trigger”) in the center of the phone holder. Press it with the back of your phone so that the two side cradles quickly close and firmly grip you phone. When you want to open the cradles, you only need to squeeze the two release levers under the phone holder to separate them.

How does Leeioo compared with the popular iOttie?

Another advantage of this type of car phone mount is that you can adjust the angle and length based on your need to get the best viewing experience. Leeioo’s adjustable arm can be extended from 7.4 inches to 10.2 inches (18.8cm to 25.9cm), and the phone holder can be rotated in 240 degrees. The adjustable arm of other similar mounts can only be extended up to 7.8 inches (19.8cm), even the latest upgraded iOttie Easy One Touch 4 can only extend up to 9 inches (22.9cm).

It is a car phone mount that is comparable with the iOttie Easy One Touch 4, but the price is only one-fifth of iOttie’s. As we mentioned before, it has a longer extending distance. Compared to iOttie, the only drawback it has may be that the suction cup base is not as strong as iOttie when you attach it to the surface of a dashboard. However, the stickiness of Leeioo is strong enough.

Products To Avoid

Typical Gravity Car Phone Mount:

Most gravity car phone mounts on the market have some fatal flaws so we don’t recommend you to use. Their structure is loose and it’s noticeable especially when a phone is not attached. We wouldn’t put our phone on it with no worries anyway.

This has been proven in our test. If you’re driving on a bumpy road, your phone will shake up and down with the danger of falling off, and make annoying sounds.

Gravity mounts are not stable, and your phone may fall anytime.

Lastly, most gravity car phone mounts can’t be rotated, which means you can’t position your phone horizontally. This is their weakness and you can’t change that. Most importantly, the price of gravity car phone mounts is generally more expensive than other types.

The Rivalry

Cradles & Suction-Cup Mounts

iOttie Easy One Touch 3: We could say that iOttie is the best car phone mount brand on the market. iOttie Easy One Touch 3 is a cradle-type mount. It has a solid structure. The suction cup base can firmly attach to a car’s dashboard. Leeioo has 90% of iOttie’s performance but costs just one-fifth.

UP One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount: It has wide cradles so it can firmly hold a phone. However, it will easily grip the volume and power buttons, which causes the volume to change continuously and turn off the phone automatically. The springs that are loaded in the cradles are tight and you need to use your hands to separate them. It is not easy to install or remove with one hand so we think it is inconvenient.

SRE One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount: It is inconvenient to operate with one hand because it lacks a button to open or close the cradles. We thought this complex one-handed operation is not easy to install or remove, so we didn’t make it our pick.

BASEUS Gravity Car Phone Mount: In our test, all the gravity mounts had a loose structure. When a phone is not attached, it would make noises from shaking when driving on a rough road. This disappointed us. BASEUS could hold a phone firmly in all the gravity mounts we tested, but its structure only allowed you to place a phone vertically. So, you’re not able to look at your phone at multiple angles.

KOOLIFE One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount: KOOLIFE is a cradle-type mount. We found its structure was not stable. In our testing, the adjustable arm shook violently and it could not keep itself stable, which made us worry it would fall off.

Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount VCS-0120: It was not as stable as Leeioo. We extended its arm to the longest and shook it, and we heard sounds from the loose structure. Thus, we were worried our phone would fall from it. It felt like it was not safe.

Leeioo One Touch Dash & Windshield Car Phone Mount VCS-0149: It is a cradle-type mount. When the arm was extended, the structure was loose. When we drove on a bumpy road, our phone shook left to right. Compared to Leeioo, Leeioo VCS-0149 was not solid and convenient enough.

Cradles & Air Vent Mounts

Floveme Air Vent One Touch Phone Mount: The Floveme is a cradle-type mount, but it is fixed in a car’s air vent. Its spring-loaded clamps can grip most cars’ air vents. However, it can only be rotated in a flat surface. The left and right angles cannot be adjusted. So, it may not bring you the best viewing angle. On a bumpy road, a phone attached to it would slightly wobble because the structure was not stable enough.

MIRAGE XIA Air Vent One Touch Phone Mount: It almost has the same structure as Floveme, so it performs unstably at times.

Leeioo Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount VCS-0118: When you’re driving on a bumpy road, our phone would slightly shake. So, its structure was not stable enough. Its two side cradles can be adjusted in a bit small range. The release levers are short, which makes it very inconvenient to operate with one hand.

dotideo Air Vent Cradle Car Phone Mount: You need to use both your hands to open its two cradles so that your phone can be attached to it. Its structure is very special, as it can rotate 360 degrees like a Ferris wheel. However, such design has a fatal flaw, which is that the slat of air vents can be easily damaged if you don’t rotate it with proper strength.

Magnetic & Air Vent Mounts

Philips Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: This car phone mount almost became our pick because we all liked it very much. Its built quality is very nice, and its turn-to-lock clamps fit 99% of cars. The magnetic surface is covered with a silicone pad to prevent a phone from slip and scratch. The reason why we didn’t pick it was the turn-to-lock clamps were not as easy as the spring-loaded clamps to install. And the price of the Philips Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount is the most expensive of all the magnetic car phone mounts we tested. Another thing is that its ball joint was a bit tight, which is not helpful when you adjust the angle.

Baseu Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: This magnetic mount has a unique long shape. It can firmly grip the slat of a car’s air vent. Its magnet is very strong, which can hold a phone firmly. However, it doesn’t fit most vents in many cars due to its unique shape.

Baseu Air Vent Leather Magnetic Car Phone Mount: The surface of this magnetic mount is made of leather, which makes it look mature. The not-spring-loaded clamps can firmly grip a car’s vent slat. Its magnetic force was also among the top models we tested. However, we found that the silicone on the clamps surface was damaged. The reason was that the gap of its clamps was so small. When we installed it, we tried so hard and caused the damage. So, we think its quality is not good and durable enough.

XDZZ Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: Its turn-to-lock clamps grip an air vent slat very firmly. It’s also suitable for all cars’ vents. However, its turn-to-lock clamps are inconvenient to operate and you must use two hands to install or remove it. Plus, its ball joint for angle adjustment is very tight and not easy to adjust.

TORRAS Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: The gap between the clamps is small and not suitable for most cars’ vents. The magnetic force is good enough to attract a phone. However, compared to Leeioo Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount, the magnetic force is a bit weaker. And the ball joint is very tight making it hard to adjust.

MEIDI Dash & Windshield Magnetic Car Phone Mount: It is a magnetic mount that is attached to a car by a suction cup, so it is very big. It didn’t look good which why we gave up on it. Its magnetic power is not as strong as the Leeioo Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount.

360 Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: The L-shape is special, but the special design makes it incompatible with vents in most cars. It is not angle adjustable and it didn’t perform well in magnetism.

GUSGU Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: This mount’s biggest advantage is that the ball joint used to adjust angle is fixed by a nut, avoiding the change of angle due to a heavy phone. But when we were driving on a rough road, it didn’t grip the vent slat firmly, which caused it to shake violently.

YUCHEBAO Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: We were disappointed at its built quality. There was a low-quality sticker on the magnetic surface, which makes it easy to peel off. This makes us don’t want to use it at all because of its bad quality.

Leeioo Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount VCS-0150: This magnetic mount is quite large. It has a complicated structure. The area of the magnetic surface is much larger than other magnetic mounts, and it added a foldable and height adjustable bottom cradle to hold your phone firmly. It is fixed on a vent slat by spring-loaded clamps, avoiding falling off from the air vent due to its big size. It also added a supporting lever on the back. In our test, we found that the lever didn’t function as it should be. And the mount didn’t perform very well in every way. The too-big size and heavy weight would do damage to a slat, that’s why we didn’t pick it.

Tnyao Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: The spring-loaded clamps could not open wide enough, so it was quite hard to install. And it had the weakest magnetism in all the models we tested.

Leeioo Air Vent Magnetic Car Phone Mount: It was our pick before we found DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount. We didn’t choose any magnetic car phone mounts at last because they require to stick a metal plate on the back of your phone. This metal plate not only affects the look of your phone but also interferes with wireless charging. DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount packs with easy operation without sticking any accessories to your phone, which is one of the reasons we picked it.

Nano Absorb Mounts

YUCHEBAO Air Vent Nano adsorption Car Phone Mount: It uses Nano adsorb technology to stick a phone. As a new type of car phone mount, its attracting power surprised us. However, it can only absorb a very smooth surface. For iPhone 7, its back is with slight matte finish and it can’t be stuck at all. When you first use it, it can stick a phone firmly. However, we found that its adsorption become weak over time.

Gravity Mounts

TORRAS Gravity Car Phone Mount: This gravity mount has a very loose structure when a phone is not placed. In our test, TORRAS attached well to most car’s air vents but the phone shook obviously. And its price is higher than other car phone mounts.

BASEUS Gravity Car Phone Mount: This gravity mount has up to four cradles. It attaches to air vent with clamps. It seems it can well protect a phone. However, in our test, it still couldn’t hold a phone firmly. Gravity mounts all have loose structure and cannot be rotated, which does not fit most people.

ROCK Gravity Car Phone Mount: When we were driving on bumpy roads, it performed better than other gravity mounts. And the protection for a phone was relatively stable. However, due to the drawback of gravity mounts, we still did not choose it.

ASOC Gravity Car Phone Mount: The look of this gravity mount is similar to ROCK. However, when we were driving on a bumpy road, our phone on it shook violently and made us lose our sense of security.

UGREEN Gravity Car Phone Mount: It is a CD-slot cradle mount. We installed it to the CD slot in our car and shook it up and down. We found the attachment was not secure. To our surprised, our phone once fell off during our tests.

Updated Log

Update: March 18, 2019

During our follow-up product scanning, we found four products that are uniquely designed, and vastly vary from other traditional car phone mounts. Through our real-world usage and testing, we newly added KEEPERDOG Gravity Car Phone Mount and DIVI Air Vent Car Phone Mount. These two new products not only bring the convenient using experience to you, but they also feature great stability. Let us tell you the two reasons we ruled out the other two products.

THIS IS ONE Gravity Car Phone Mount: Although this mount looks good, and it’s much smaller than other normal gravity mounts, it’s the most unstable gravity mounts we’ve seen, or, even the most unstable in the category. Because four of its supporting points are at a lower position of the phone, and its structure is loose. So, after you put your phone on the mount, with just a slight shake, the phone easily falls. We saw many users that reported this phone-drop problem in product reviews.

LUTESHI Suction-Cup Car Phone Mount:  For this car phone mount, the way to attach a phone is quite special — it sucks the phone via a suction cup. This way is indeed convenient. Just press your phone to the mount and it can be fixed. But you have to make sure your phone or your phone case is smooth, otherwise, the suction cup won’t work. During real-world usage, we found that you need to find the lever and press it with one of your hands first, then remove the phone with the other hand. It’s kind of tricky, though.

i have a phone holder like Leeioo one touch but with a clip to the air vent.
The clip doesn’t attach the slat firmly, so my phone will vibrate while driving. so i personally recommend a suction cup type.
